Safe4Athletes suggests seeking appropriately trained and credentialed professionals for athletes when seeking help when an athlete may have encountered sexual abuse, bullying and harassment.
Education: Master’s, Ed.S., or Doctorate in Psychology or a related field (Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D). in counseling - focus must be on counseling or providing clinical services to people.
Certifying Body Credentialing: Must have a state license to practice psychology, counseling, social work (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.)
Sport Component: Must have experience working with athletes and understand the athletic culture. This must be demonstrated via coursework and experience (supervised experience).
Experience in treating trauma: This can be demonstrated by coursework and/or experience.
